About Me

I’m Alice, mummy of 3 beautiful girls, married to the best husband ever; I am blessed with a fantastic, inspirational little family who are my reason for living life to the full, even though they can drive me crazy at times (see, we are ‘normal’ too!).

In the summer of 2015, I started this blog, as therapy, to shape my future. I have rediscovered my love of writing that got buried when I grew up and now on the side I do some creative writing too, which pops up on The Filling Glass every now and then.

But my biggest reason now for blogging is to make a difference. The Filling Glass is based on my passion for ‘empowered parenting’. I would like to see future generations grow up untroubled by ‘the great depression’ in our current society.

I want the metaphorical glasses of parents and their children to be filled to overflowing. It is really important to me how we support ourselves emotionally as parents, as well as how we parent our children to support their emotional development.

I suffered an emotional and mental breakdown, when my twin daughters were just under 2 years old. Having previously been shaky in my emotional self anyway, it took me over 4 years to finally feel right. My recovery was helped by my supportive husband and an amazing therapist.

To keep myself on an even keel and be the best parent I can, I now know how important it is to look after myself, with good food, regular exercise, time to refresh my brain, being organised and recognising my limitations (even if all of the above doesn’t always happen!).

I have a love of tasty (not necessarily healthy) food, books, and being cosy under a blanket or in front of a fire. Conversely, I also love being outside, but preferably when no-one else is around; either at 6am or when the weather is so terrible everyone else is indoors!

I am more than the sum of my parts.

Hello. You wrote a generous comment on my blog yesterday after I’d linked with PoCoLo, which made me think there might be some common themes going on, and from reading a few posts it seems there are. I look forward to reading more from you.
